1961 PORSCHE 356B SUPER 90 CABRIOLET

A simply gorgeous presentation in Condor yellow with Black interior trim. The engine was changed by the Porsche factory in 1967 and we hold a document from Porsche relating to this change.

Body by Karosseriewerk Reutter of Stuttgart.

Delivered new in Germany in 1961, it was then taken by it’s owner back to the United States.

The car was imported into Australia in May 1999 and we hold a copy of the Australian Government Import approval # 7269/92.

The car has been the subject of a very comprehensive conversion to RHD and restoration to it’s present condition. We hold all the appropriate documentation relating to it’s registration process in South Australia.

Powered by the top engine option at the time, the Super 90, it is a 1582cc 4 cylinder air cooled engine, producing when new 66Kw (88.5hp) and 121Nm of power and torque, delivered to the rear wheels via a 4 speed manual gearbox. Performance figures suggest 0-100kph in 11.9 secs and a top speed near 160kph.

The LHD to RHD

The meticulous restoration included professional engineering-compliant conversion to RHD ensuring that all components – steering arm, geometry and steering column are all true to – or exceed – original specifications in what is a true mirror of the original LHD installation.

This applies to firewall, brake master cylinder and pedal box location and operation, windscreen wipers, all wiring and dashboard layout.

In short, the conversion was ratified in October 2022 by United Auto Engineering to meet all requirements outlined in standards VSB and Code LS 1. The engineering certification documents accompany the car – as do the original Bill of sale ex USA, Vehicle Import Approval 7269/92 issues on the 5th of May 1999 and all relevant registration documentation.

Apart from the above details, the current owner has given us the following information relating to the restoration.

H4 Halogen headlights 12 volt
LED tail and indicator lamps
High level in-grille LED stop lamps
All gauges converted 6 to 12 volt – no transformers
12-volt wiper motor and electric washers
12-volt clock
Full set of five light-weight alloy wheels shod with Michelin 165 tyres
Adjustable 22mm front sway bar
Front control arm professionally boxed for better handling
Koni shock absorbers
Front disc brakes with dual master cylinder system
Rebuilt engine by 356 Werks (Rob Fores) of Melbourne
