The Ducati 1098 is a sport bike made by Ducati from 2007 to 2009, in three versions, the 1098, 1098S, and 1098R. The 1098 was succeeded by the 1198 in 2009, though the 1098R remained in production that year.

The 1098 shares more design elements with the older 998 than with its predecessor the 999, such as horizontally placed headlights and a non-integrated exhaust system. Another carryover from its 916/998 heritage is the single-sided swingarm.

The 1098 was designed by Ducati designer, Giandrea Fabbro.

This example from Ducati comes with an interesting history.

The present owner has supplied the following information:-

"The dealer principal at Frasers explained that Troy Bayliss was retiring from riding but still had basically a year to run on contract with Ducati, they were using him as a Ducati ambassador and do public appearances etc. so Frasers were charged with setting up bike 230 for him and running it in on their Dyno ready for Troy to do appearances with it, the first one was a tribute to himself, Wayne Gardener and Mick Dohan at Phillip Island GP where he did a few laps of the track and then a signing in the back of the pits with some select fans afterwards, Troy had another engagement strait after and left almost strait away, so while the Frasers dealer principal and some of the other Ducati hierarchy were out there with the bike Casey Stoner came over to have a look, at it which is when the Frasers guy got him to sign it.

Near the end of his final year Ducati tried to sign him on as ambassador for another few years but he declined as he was following up on his own interests, so Frasers put the bike up for sale, I brought it and they organised for it to be in the Ducati Corporate tent at the world super bikes at Phillip island and organised for Troy to come and meet me and sign the bike."

The 1098/1098 S makes a manufacturer claimed (119 kW) ,(103 kW) at the rear wheel and (123 Nm) torque, (106 Nm) at the rear wheel, and weighs 173 kg.

The 0-60 mph time is less than 3.0 seconds and 1/4 mile at 10.015 seconds at (231.65 km/h) and top speed of (279 km/h). The 1098 R, with its larger displacement 1198 cc engine, makes a manufacturer claimed (134 kW) and (134 Nm) torque.

At the time of its release, these figures gave the 1098 the highest torque-to-weight ratio of any production sport bike ever made.
