2003 Ford SVT F150 Lightning
“I first bought the vehicle from a Mr Chen in Victoria who I believe was a part
owner of (VDC) Vehicle Development Centre at one stage which imports Ford
150/250 and other specialized Ford vehicles from USA. They are located at 380
Barry Road, Coolaroo Victoria, 3048.
Interesting Specifications about the 2nd Generation VT Lightning.
The Ford SVT 150 Lightning was launched for the 1999 model year. The
redesigned Lightning featured fresh new styling features and unmatched
performance, promising potential buyers the opportunity to own the world’s
fastest production pickup truck.
Available only as a regular cab, step side model, the Lightning was much more
than a standard F150 with visual accents.
An Eaton supercharged 5.4L V8 provided 360 hp and 440 Ib- ft of torque and
was later upgraded to 380 hp and 450 Ib-ft for the 2003/2004 model year.
A 4R100 4 speed automatic transmission from the Ford Super duty line up to
transmit power to a limited slip 9.75″ rear axle. The Engine was designed by
Roush and Fords Special Vehicle Team (SVT), upgraded with such parts as
forged rods, lower compression pistons, and crankshaft.
Production of the Lightning was from 1999 to 2004.
I had pursued one of these trucks for some time and an opportunity came up
to purchase this RED 2003 model. Powered by a supercharged 5.4 litre V8 with
380 horsepower and 450 Ib-ft of torque for the 2003 to 2004 model with only
15,000 kilometres on the speedometer in immaculate condition.
With that in mind this opportunity was too good to miss out on, so it was an
easy decision for me to bring the vehicle home to Adelaide in October of 2014.
In the eight years that I have personally owned and thoroughly enjoyed this
iconic vehicle I have travelled a mere 13,700kms myself and kept the lightning in
pristine condition as it was when I acquired it from Melbourne Victoria.
Recently the Ford Lightning received a service from Ploughman Restorations
P/L, Ford and Mustang Specialists in Lonsdale South Australia who I admire for
their attention to detail and great work ethic, a place I would recommend for
any car loving enthusiast.
In the eight years that I have enjoyed my pride and joy I have culminated a list
of identities if needed to update the vehicle in any way.

As I have only updated tyres from Kings Tyres Sydney, sought out front
headlight covers and bulbs and serviced the vehicle the above identities are a

Motiv Engineering P/L did the inspection on the 2003 Ford Lightning
conversion to meet the requirements for Registration in the jurisdiction of
South Australia on January 15, 2015.
I have taken the Lightning to Ford Shows on a few occasions and other
organized events, trips to Victor Harbour and surrounding areas and
thoroughly enjoyed the many comments and interested discussions about the
truck, and now I believe it should be enjoyed by another vehicle enthusiast
who will drive it more than perhaps I did.”
