The year is 1997 and Subaru were already well revered within World Rally circles. It was also the exact year the WRX Type R STi Version 4 was born. Equipped in much the same way as the 4-door model the biggest exterior change was the silhouette… The Type-R was the first 2-door Impreza which later served as the shape for the 22B and the P1 and became the basis for the WRC rally car, so all in all a significant shape!
A limited Edition WRX, not so common in Australia.
A private import to Australia by it’s current owner, we hold the Vehicle Import Approval document dated 17th of September 2020.
Current service information is available and the last service completed in Adelaide in November 2020 and more recently has received mechanical attention , brake work and 4 new Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.
Powered by a 2.0 Litre 4 cylinder turbo engine, power claims at the time of release suggest 205Kw and 374Nm of power and torque, delivered very effectively to an AWD system via a 5 speed manual gearbox. Performance claims suggest 0-100kph in 4.9 secs and a top speed near 220kph. A very quick and competent car, well known for their performance capabilities and amazing road holding.
The owner has supplied the following information regarding this example:-
“This vehicle is a (MY98) (December 1997 built) Subaru Impreza WRX STI Type R Version 4 Japanese Domestic Market delivered model.
The limited-edition Type R model, further more to what the Australian Domestic Market Version 5 model (not a Type R model) had, featured a few extras the ADM Version 5 didn’t – mainly the Driver Controlled Centre Diff (DCCD) which is electronically adjustable in the car, lighter by 10kg increasing the cars power to weight ratio and the intercooler water spray which is also electronically controlled inside the cabin.
Being an STI Type R 2 door, it also featured a mechanical rear limited slip differential, sharper steering rack, close ratio transmission, same suspension as the Australian delivered version 5 and forged pistons; and the 2-door body shell was stiffer than the 4 door STI.
This car has been checked over by a Subaru specialist and I was advised to do everything that required attention maintenance and repair wise, no expense was spared with thousands in invoices available. A compression test ( all 4 cylinder was with 2 PSI of each other) was also performed to prove the factory original engine is still as good as new.”
