A well restored Sandman Ute presenting in Mandarin Red with slate black interior trim.

The present owner has just completed a back to bare metal restoration on this vehicle which has taken nearly 6 years to complete.
Here are his words on the rebuild:-

"I searched for an original early model Sandman ute for two years before I found this one in Sydney 10 years ago
I liked the fact that it's quite rare and you never see a genuine one.
I bought it sight unseen along with original parts that had been removed over the years.
It had been converted to a GTS look alike, hence the colour change
I have confirmed its authenticity through Holden and have a certified certificate with the car.

It was purchased new on the 18th July 1975 from AC Mcgrath Holden in Liverpool, NSW. Original service and handbook supplied.
Sandman built from a Kingswood model (most were Belmonts). Kingswood had more chrome and additional features.

Restoration commenced 6 years ago

The car was stripped back to bare metal and revealed an amazing clean body.
Chassis was cleaned and repainted
Non matching number 308 was sourced as the engine was a HQ and was at end of life.
Old engine did still have the correct date stamped Rochester carburettor which was refurbished.
Full restoration with as many genuine parts as possible sourced over a 6 year period with picking slip numbers on parts matching a
build broadcast sheet.

Factory air-conditioning, Limited slip diff 3.08 ratio, factory Airchief radio, electric antenna, factory variable speed wipers (very rare)

Engine has been rebuilt with a scat stroker crank and rods (355 cubic inch). Engine cam has been run in but car has never been
on the road. Effectively a brand new 1975 HJ Sandman. Has running in oil in it.
Rebuilt M21 gearbox
All new suspension, bushes, brakes.
Original GTS dash and gauges, fully refurbished and working, even the clock works!
Near perfect tray with no dents.
All metal finish (see resto photos of body in bare metal)
Restoration was completed on the 2nd August 2020
All receipts, paperwork and over 260 photos of vehicles restoration process
Was not built to sell, but work is taking me to remote Northern Australia and can't take the car with me. A genuine and reluctant sale.
Car has factory towbar with towbar tongue behind driver seat.
Car restoration was documented on the MYSandman website forum, who confirmed it to be genuine on their register and provided
detail for correct restoration as per factory original".

Very few early Holden utes come on the market and even fewer are presented as well as this one. A huge file of receipts and photos
support this rebuild and will make a worthy companion to the car for its next owner.
