A very original and matching numbers car, delivered new in Adelaide and we hold the original books and early service record.
This car is also wearing the original plates issued for it in 1972.
It is quite remarkable to have all the original books for a sportscar that is over 50 years of age.
Powered by a 1.8 Litre 4 cylinder engine, it produced when new 95bhp (70Kw) of power, delivered to the rear wheels via 4 speed manual gearbox plus an extra two ratios with overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears. One of the most popular sportscars in history and produced in various forms from 1962 until 1980.
This Australian built MGB was built from (CKD) parts shipped from the UK and completed in British Leyland’s Zetland plant just south of Sydney. On the subject of originality, when the cars arrived from the UK, the engine number was on an aluminium plate, riveted to the block. The Australian authorities required this be removed and the said number stamped into the block. The workers at Zetland placed the aluminium plate beside the rubber seal at the top of the radiator shroud. This car still has that original seal and the aluminium engine number sitting next to it.
This car has had recent attention to suspension bushes, starter motor, dash gauges, rear brakes and engine tuning, so is fresh and ready to enjoy.
Soft top up or down, a great car to enjoy for car events, shows or just a picnic drive through the hills.
Eligible for Historic registration in most jurisdictions, this equates to minimal on road costs.
