“1971 CHRYSLER VALIANT CHARGER 770 – 318 – MANUAL
A very early build VH Charger, #24 with body code 6-H-29 factory 318 Auto, now completely restored in the original colour of Russet Metallic with complimentary tan coloured interior trim.
Powered by a 318ci (5,.2Lt) V8 engine, it produced when new 172Kw and 461Nm of power and torque, delivered to the rear wheels via 3 speed automatic transmission. Performance at the time was claimed at 0-100kph in 8.4 secs and top speed near 195kph.
This car has during its restoration, been changed to a 4 speed manual transmission, so the above performance figures may differ slightly.
The present owner has supplied the following information about the rebuild:-
Non original but Factory and period correct owner upgrades
Dealer fitted Aircon (Ice cold)
E48 6 pack Dana 3:27 ratio 31 spline LSD (also used as warranty diffs)
4 speed manual with a factory floor console.
6 pack adjustable leaf spring hangers.
Non original upgrades
Original A221B motor fitted with baby cam, Elderbrock performer manifold disguised in engine colour and quick fuel 600 mechanical secondary carby fitted under the original air cleaner for the factory stock look. It produces 175Kw at the rear wheels, which is nothing radical but still gives a nice note, good brake booster vacuum and enough punch to put a smile on your face.
Elko rack and pinion steering which makes the car an absolute pleasure to drive with no tracking like the factory steering box setups.
Twin 2 1/4 inch exhaust system with Factory look brushed stainless upsweeps.
Factory points distributor modified to CDI ignition for reliability and better function.
Matching classic loop pile floor mats.
Vehicle has undergone a full nut and bolt rotisserie restoration by a well known local Chrysler enthusiast, body was vapour blasted, coated in Epotec and professionally panel beated and painted in high quality Mippa (German) COB 2 pack (left over paint supplied). A number of nos (new old stock) panels have been fitted to the car. Undercarriage painted in 2 pak original red oxide colour, all black and stone guard areas painted exactly as per the factory. All specific original nuts and bolts zinc plated and reused.
