1969 HOLDEN BROUGHAM HT SEDAN – AUTO – 6,511 MILES SHOWING
The Holden Brougham is a large, luxury automobile that was produced by Holden in Australia between July 1968 and 1971.
It was based on the mainstream Holden Premier of the same years, but with a lengthened rear body. The boot was simply extended by 8 inches (200 mm) rather than increasing the 111-inch (2,800 mm) wheelbase. The Premier’s four-headlight grille was also kept. The model was a hasty response to Ford Australia’s successful Fairlane.
The HK series Brougham was launched in July 1968 along with the new Monaro coupés, six months after the HK Series Holden Belmont/Kingswood/Premier models. The Brougham then followed the model cycles of these mainstream Holdens: the HT series was announced in July 1969 and the HG series in August 1970.
This example is a two owner car in quite original form, presenting in Platinum Metallic (567-10974) & Black Vinyl roof and Blue fabric interior trim (14M).
Delivered new to it’s first owner by Motors Pty Ltd of Hobart Tasmania on the 20th of June 1969.
We hold both the original service book and also handbook, showing details of that first delivery.
A matching numbers car.
The exterior paint is all new from some years ago, but the original colour and the blue interior trim appears to be the original trim.
The current owner has owned and serviced this car for approximately 17 years, we hold some paperwork relating to it’s care.
A few words from the current owner will assist in understanding it’s back ground:-
“In regards to the Brougham. It has been in my possession for 17 years. I am the second owner and flew to Tassie to purchase it back in 2006. Drove it back from Hobart to Geelong.
As a qualified mechanic the car was garaged at our workshop in North Geelong.
From there the car had the interior removed completely to look at the floor pan, no issues were found. The vinyl roof was also removed.
2 sections of the rear dog legs were replaced due to rust although not bad, enough to warrant replacement. There was also a small section under the vinyl roof that needed repair and was cut out and replaced. The roof was then rust treated and repainted before the vinyl went back on.
The underbody was rather clean and some bushings were replaced. Fully cleaned and prepared the underbody for rust inhibitor and deadener.
The interior was missing the brocade in the seats, so that was purchased from the US and my trimmer did an absolute amazing job of fitting the brocade with the original vinyl seating cover. New carpet was installed throughout including the boot.
The car was resprayed in acrylic, and I asked for a shut door as to not disturb the original colour of the trim interior.
New roof lining was installed.
Extractor twin pipes system installed. That’s the only modification from original
The car then was put on full rego with custom plate : BROUGM. I still have the plates in my possession.
I joined a club and and put the car on club rego. It has not done a lot of club runs or been driven a lot. The furthest it has been is to Bendigo and back.
Always garaged and not taken out much unless the weather was perfect.
Over the 17 years I would say I’ve done roughly 3500 miles.
As you know the car has the original manuals and as a mechanic, there are no other servicing histories due to it being my own car, apart from the recent invoice from Ballarat.”
Powered by a 308ci (5.0Lt) V8 engine, it produced when new 179Kw and 427Nm of power and torque, delivered to the rear wheels via a 2 speed auto transmission. Performance figures at the time of release suggest 0-100kph in 9.6 secs and a top speed near 200kph.
Quite a rare GMH offering and would suit someone who has been looking for a genuine example and is willing to care for and fettle the car in the future.
Eligible for Historic or Club registration in most jurisdictions, this equates to minimal on road costs.
Available to inspect on our state of the art showroom floor in Adelaide.
We can arrange transport door to door Australia wide.
