We hold a certificate issued by the Stiftung Auto Museum Volkswagen in Germany, showing the production date as the 19th of December 1968 and left the factory on the 23rd of February 1969. It also shows destination, the USA and fitted with white wall tyres.
Imported into Australia from the USA in 2015, we hold an Australian Import Approval document dated the 27th of July 2015.
This vehicle has undergone a conversion to RHD and a total restoration by Marque Restorations & Motor Repair, a well respected restoration specialist in Kilkenny Adelaide. Part of the restoration was to completely remove any rust and give the body a complete anti rust treatment. There is an extensive file of paperwork and receipts amounting to a considerable total, spent on this car to bring it to its current condition. This includes an engine rebuild completed in December 2020 by Volks Care, VW specialists of Windsor Gardens, Adelaide.
Recently the subject of a service dated the 11th of August 2023, so fresh and up to date and ready to go.
Originally powered by a 1.5 Litre 4 cylinder air cooled engine, it produced when new 39Kw and 106Nm of power and torque, delivered to the rear wheels via a 4 speed manual gearbox. Performance suggests a top speed near 130kph, however with recent engine work, this example is likely to exceed it’s original capabilities.
Performance wasn’t the key feature of the Karmann Ghia, however it’s iconic style has taken it into cult status around the world, this example is a proud contender.
Currently Historically registered in South Australia, this is non transferable, however this vehicle would be eligible for similar schemes in other jurisdictions, which equates to minimal on road costs.
