1968 MORRIS COOPER S – TRIBUTE
This example presents very well with a Burgandy Roof and a Snow White body.
The Cooper S engine has had some modification in line with factory competition cars of the 60’s, ie a capicity out to 1310cc and a twin choke 45mm weber carburettor in lieu of the standard 1275cc and twin SUs. To further the 60’s competition look, it is wearing slightly wider 10″ alloy wheels, however the original SU carburettors and original slotted wheels and hub caps are part of the package.
Other items that have been changed are as follows:
Engine
Head ported and polished to match the twin choke weber
Head updated to allow for unleaded fuel
Race valves 35.5mm inlet/29.5mm exhaust
Isky light hi-grade tappets
Roller rockers 1.5 : 1 ratio
Chrome rings
Double row timing chain
MDM276 fast road cam
Bores honed and faced
New oil pump
New Evo water pump & kevlar hoses
Fresh metallic green engine paint
Gearbox and clutch
Race/rally clutch plate
Orange dot diaphragm w/hd thrust bearing
Lightened flywheel
Gear box rebuild
Because of the modifications, were are not in possession of current performance figures, however the excitement of driving a Cooper S is there and the sound of the twin choke weber just adds to the fun!
Mini Cooper S’s were the lion slayers of the 60’s, winning many races and rallys around the world. None more famous in this country than the 1966 Bathurst race, where the Cooper S’s won over much more powerful cars from Ford and Holden.
An Austin Cooper S also won the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally, which also was won over much more powerful competition.
This example is a very tidy and attractive Mini Cooper S tribute and is a lot of fun to drive.
