1967 MORRIS COOPER S RALLY CAR – TRIBUTE – 58,973 MILES SHOWING
This example is a UK built car, first registered on the 5th of September 1967. The last UK registration number was NRX291F and the last MOT Test Certificate completed in April 2012.
Built from UK Mini parts, this car has received a lot of attention to make it a tribute car to the factory rally cars of the 60’s, in particular the car Paddy Hopkirk and Ron Crellin won in the 1967 Alpine Rally. The Hopkirk car was registered LRX827E and its two sister cars LRX828E and LRX829E came to Australia to compete in the 1967 Southern Cross Rally.
This particular car was believed to be a Press or Pool car for BMC/BLMC Competition’s Department at Abingdon. It was driven from John O’Groats to Land’s End in October 2010 to help raise money for Cancer Charities. It was also used as a reference point for well known artist Fran Richley, who was commissioned by Paddy Hopkirk to paint their winning car in the 1967 Alpine Rally.
Set up as a rally car, is has been registered for the road in Queensland by the current owner as a two seater, as a roll bar is fitted in the rear.
