Presented here is a remarkable example of a matching numbers Mk1 Cooper S built in September 1967 and delivered new by the then BMC dealership in Adelaide, Adelaide Motors BMC of 77 Pirie Street Adelaide on the 31st of January 1968. The original colours of the car are as follows, Shadow Blue body with a Snow White roof and complemented by pale blue trim.

This is a matching numbers Cooper S which is supported by a Commemorative Heritage Certificate from The British Leyland Corporation of Australia Cert. #541 attesting to it's credentials as well as the original Adelaide Motors invoice for it's purchase in January 1968.

Powered by a 1275cc 4 cylinder east west engine, it produces 57Kw and 108Nm of power and torque driving through a 4 speed manual gearbox. Performance figures at the time were amazing, 0-100kph in 10.8 secs and a top of 160kph. You might not think that's very fast by today's standards, but in the 60's, driving this shoe box on wheels, you thought you were flying! The author of these words knows this as he bought a similar car from Adelaide Motors in Dec 1966 and believe me, it was a fun machine.

Performance of the Cooper S is legendary around the world, having amassed many racing and rally victories, none more famous than the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964 and even more famous here, the 1966 Bathurst 500 against much bigger and more powerful opponents.

This car is a perfect car to collect and reminisce those halcyon days.
