1957 FORD THUNDERBIRD D CODE COUPE
This beautiful Ford Thunderbird was a one owner car from Las Vegas and was imported to Australia by it’s present owner approximately five years ago.
One of the last 20 built in the Ford factory in 1957 and carries an extra “E” in the paint code on the scuttle mounted ID plate, meaning it was ordered with white door knobs, white steering wheel and a Colonial White roof.
Original miles on the odometer are 19929, that is exactly 119,929 actual and the odometer turned over at 99,999 miles on the 12th of May 1989, according to the original handbook.
Powered by a 5.1 Litre (312ci) V8 D Code engine, is delivers it’s power to the rear wheels via a 3 speed Fordomatic transmission. Performance claimed by Ford at the time suggests 183Kw and 450Nm of power, producing a 0-100kph time of 9.9 secs and top speed near 185kph. Not a sports car, but a gorgeous boulevard cruiser.
The present owner has completed a full bare metal respray in 2018 and included the following work:-
All new interior including leather seat swab
Floor and firewall have all been Dyna matted
New firewall insulation installed
Soft top is all original and still has the factory cover on it.
Bumper bars are original chrome
New period correct dash pad fitted
New brakes all round
New front windscreen
New side glass
All rubbers are new
New tail light lenses
New front indicator lenses
New carpet
New interior
Front suspension has been rebuilt
All rubbers on rear end replaced.
This vehicle is a superb example and would make the ideal classic cruiser. It is currently Historically registered in South Australia and would be eligible for similar registration in most jurisdictions. This makes on road costs minimal.
