1955 HOLDEN FJ SPECIAL SEDAN – MANUAL – 56,049 MILES SHOWING
The Holden FJ series is a range of motor vehicles which was produced in Australia by Holden from 1953 until 1956.
The FJ was the second model of an “all Australian car” manufactured by Holden and was based upon the established 48-215 series, commonly referred to as the “FX”.
The FJ, of monocoque construction, broadly followed the silhouette of its predecessor, but featured a bolder horizontal styled front grille, along with comfort and decoration upgrades in a new sedan model named the ‘Holden Special’
This is a very original example of the much loved FJ Holden, wearing mostly it’s original paint.
Presenting in the fairly familiar colour of Cream with Red coloured interior trim.
Powered by a 2.2 litre 6 cylinder engine, it produced when new 45Kw and 135.7Nm of power and torque, delivered to the rear wheels via the famous ” 3 on the tree ” manual gearbox. Performance figures when new suggested 0-100kph in 24.7 sec and a top speed not much further at 120kph.
Performance wasn’t the biggest attribute of the FJ, more to the point they were loved because they were Australian made, economical to run, roomy for the whole family and very reliable.
Reliability lead to events such as the Redex round Australia trials which they starred in and eventually they leant themselves to considerable tuning and race track success. I think of Norm Beechey and Leo Geoghegan hurtling around the race track in FX and FJ’s, lifting wheels on every corner!!
This lovely original FJ would be perfect just as is, as a classic car to enjoy classic events like the Bay to Birdwood or just a cruise to your favourite destination.
Alternatively, it would be a perfect candidate for a full restoration in that was your chosen path.
