A rare offering, being one of the 874 home market TD’s produced in 1953 and one of the last made before the new TF 1250 was introduced in 1954. Also rare to be wearing wire wheels, a debatable period option to the last of the TD 2’s and of course an option also on the TF’s that followed.

Powered by a 1250cc 4 cylinder XPAG engine, it produced when new 40.6Kw and 86.6Nm of power, driving the rear wheels via a 4 speed manual gearbox. Performance suggests 0-100kph in 22.6 secs and a top speed near 130kph. This engine was manufactured with all the TD2 XPAG evolved production upgrades.
MG’s catch phrase for marketing after the war was “Safety Fast”, this was a very popular sports car in the 50’s and thousand were exported to the US to satisfy the returning service men who had become to love them during their service in the UK at war time.
The current owner is an active member of the MG Car Club in SA and is well known, as is the car.
He states “A Heritage certificate not available for MGTD from British Motor Museum, so I have enquired for a Manufacturers Production certificate from MGCC-UK. ”
