1949 HOLDEN FX 48-215 SEDAN – 77,708 MILES SHOWING
This amazing car is a time warp machine, being a very original car with virtually no modifications since being built in 1949.
Built at the General Motors Holden factory at Woodville in South Australia.
First registered on the 29th of December 1949, it was delivered by State Motors Holden to an Adelaide resident, who owned it until 1985.
History tells us it then changed hands and went to another South Australian resident who owned it for 4 years.
Powered by a 2.2Lt 6 cylinder engine, it produced 45Kw of power and delivered it to the rear wheels via a 3 speed manual gearbox, with the gearstick on the column, commonly called (3 on the tree). Performance was spritely for the late 40’s, 0-100kph in 19.0 secs and top speed near 150kph.
The current owners bought the car in 1990 and have supplied the following information together with lots of receipts, manuals and even the original handbook, which exists in a rather poor condition, but is still here!
The FX has competed in two Grand Prix Rallies 1990 & 1991. It also competed in the Nubrik-Hallett Classic Car Rally in 1988 along with a lot of other fancy cars, but the crowd at the Grand Prix circuit for the parade apparently gave the biggest cheer for this car. This was printed in the Adelaide Advertiser 11th of November 1988. We hold an old brown copy of that edition.
The vehicle is very original and un restored. Hood lining was replaced in 1988, the bonnet was repainted in 1990 as it had faded.
Bumpers were re chromed in 1991, the engine is original and the head has never been off. Seats and carpets are original, together with the original am radio, which still works.
This is a well known FX in South Australia, it deserves another caring owner who will either keep it as an original basically un molested example, or will decide on a restoration. The SA1414 plates do not come with the car.
