1936 BENTLEY 4 AND A QUARTER LITRE - DERBY BUILT/BARKER BODY - CHASSIS #B131GP
This glamorous pre war Bentley is in remarkable original condition considering it's age. One of 1234 made between 1936 and 1939.
Delivered new by Jack Barclay of Danvers Street, Chelsea, London SW3 on the 30th of September 1936.
We have evidence that it was delivered new to the Earl of Kintore, a Scottish peer. There are some exquisite features of this car which would have been very special inclusions in the day, especially for an Earl. They include a very early American Bosch car radio, a clock inside the interior rear vision mirror, an amazing set of tools and useful devices under the front seats and under the bonnet, a sunroof and a speedo that reads in both MPH & KMS. The owner was obviously planning to tour Europe in his new Bentley.
Powered by a 4.25Lt 6 cylinder engine which was also common to the Rolls Royce 20/25 of the day, the Bentley version had twin carburettors giving it a sporting edge and delivered the power via a floor mounted manual gearbox, it is everything a sporting Bentley should be.
This glamorous Bentley has obviously led a sheltered life, because it is in remarkable original condition for its age and drives as quietly as it was designed to do. The leather interior shows a gentle life of use, but not abused. This is car would grace any collectors garage and deserves continued love and attention.
A major service on this vehicle was completed in June 2018 by very respected South Australian restorers, Finch Restorations of Mt Barker, amounting to several thousand dollars and covered all aspects of the car, engine, lubricants, suspension and electrics. Consequentially, the car is in very good running order and starts well and very quietly. She's a grand lady.
