1930 CHEVROLET AD UNIVERSAL TOURER – MANUAL – 76,132 MILES SHOWING
Presenting here is an amazing piece of motoring history, 95 years of age and still going strong.
We hold what looks like it’s original handbook and it is dated January the 1st 1930.
This vehicle would have been been imported to Australia as a rolling chassis and the body built by Holden Motor Body Builders.
Locally assembled by General Motors (Australia) Pty Ltd (later General Motors-Holden’s) these vehicles using imported chassis and components with locally made bodies from Holden’s, a common practice for many GM cars in Australia during that era.
The body shows both a General Motors (Aust) Pty Ltd plaque and also a Holden plaque just near the driver’s door.
Powered by a 3.2 Litre (194ci) “Stovebolt” OHV 6 cylinder engine, it produced when new 37kw of power. Featuring a 3 speed manual gearbox, it was apparently capable of nearly 115kph in top speed.
The current owner of 40 years has provided the following information on his pride and joy:-
” 1. Car has been reconditioned- engine cleaned throughout and tuned, new plugs and battery, carby re-built with a kit, new pistons and bearings some time ago but driven little since so the engine should be in top shape, compression is good, rockers adjusted.
2. System is 6 volts.
3. Radiator has been cleaned inside – was as good as new anyway (honeycomb), fuel pump has a new diaphragm, fuel tank has a functioning sender ( sends the info about how full the tank is to the gauge), all instruments are checked and functional, new wiper blade – is electric (original was vacuum), generator works well, engine does not overheat.
4. Have owned the car for 40 years. I purchased it in NSW and had it restored over 15 years and used it for a time. It was stored for some years after that and now I have bought it back to top condition.
5. The car has been in the Bay to Birdwood and has been driven casually as well.
6. It has brand new tyres.
7. It comes with an owner’s manual ( probably original) and a copy of the Repair Manual.
8. Upholstery fully restored.”
Considering it’s age of 95 years, this looks and feels much younger and is a true credit to it’s current owner.
